Loose tooth, Aunt Jen Lake and truffle-hunting grizzly bear: Holdhusens do the Grand Tetons

We arrived in the Grand Tetons to another two nights of camping-ish.  We stayed in teeny tiny "cabin" with four walls, a window and a door.  No electricity.  No water.  But those grizzlies were kept at bay with a locked door.  We talked about visiting Jenny Lake (in Grand Teton National Park) on our loooong drive from South Dakota.  Odelia could be in the middle of a deep nap and if she heard the word "Jenny" she'd say, "Hey!  Don't call it that!  It's Aunt Jen Lake."

The kids LOVED  the cabin/camping hybrid.  And then there were the bunk beds.  Who remembers the delight of bunk beds?  They crawled up and down, switched sides, carved out places, created imaginary worlds all because someone stacked two beds.  Brilliant.

I demanded that we explore our culinary options and found this "egg in a bag".  Boil water and throw in some eggs.  MMMMMMMMMMMM.

Our egg in a bag!  Milo was skeptical but he plowed through.

Rock throwin on the Snake River.

Big

Trip

2014
(By: Milo)

We toiled over this sand castle.  The Osie loves herself some sand.

Day 1 of exploring:  It's 42 degrees.  Brrrrrrrrr!

Alpine lakes!  Aggghhhh.

Odelia discovered a loose tooth on this day.  She was a focused "wiggler" all day long.  It's still in her head but she's on mission to have the tooth fairy visit her on Big Trip.

Odelia wields the camera (while wiggling her tooth).

Canoeing Jenny Lake.

Pit stop for rock throwing.

And texting.
Paddles up!

Do you see the blue leaves?  We all "ooohhed and ahhhhhed" over the color of the leaves.  I demanded Mark take a picture.  We talked to the kids about how you just don't find that color of blue in nature very often and then we walked a few feet further...and discovered...it was spray paint to mark downed foliage.  Ha! Milo said, "I guess you really DON''T see that color of blue in nature."  I bet the park rangers were chuckling behind us.

Aunt Jen Lake
We stood corrected...

Getting loose

at the Mangy Moose!

I came here as a child when we would vacation here and my dad wore a t-shirt for years from this place.

Ski lift up to the Alpine Slide, Jackson Hole, WY

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

At the top of the mountain ready to slide down again.

Ready,

set,

go!

Required candy store.  Barrels upon barrels of taffy!

We played foosball for the first time.  Milo was hooked.  He's convinced us that we must have one for our basement.

Milo's turn!

On our way out of the park headed to Idaho this little lady decided to come out for some breakfast.  She didn't have a pot of honey on her paw or a salmon flopping in her mouth so I asked Mark, "What do you think she's digging for?"
Without hesitation, "A truffle".  What kind of uppity grizzlies are we dealing with here?
