Knock knock

Yesterday we went on a river float tour down the Bow River.  The kids had plenty of time before we left on the tour to throw some rocks in the river.  Its like a moth to a flame, especially Milo.  We get out of the car and its like he can sniff out water.  He starts collecting rocks as we near any body of water.  Mark is no better. He has thrown so many rocks that he has developed a sore shoulder.  I'm not sure how sympathetic anyone will be if he explains the root of his pain comes from a summer of leisure rock-throwing in beautiful places.  The river tour was fun, though Odelia took a very brief catnap on the raft and woke up with 30 minutes left of the tour and spent the remaining time on the tour crawling all over me and pinching my cheeks.  She thought it was a laugh riot.  I, on the other hand, felt like a pin cushion by the end of the tour.
We're staying in Canmore and most of the places we are visiting are at least 25 minutes.  The kids tend to get a bit slap happy in the car on the way home and yesterday spiraled into a typical toddler/preschooler exchange with Odelia rolling out the knock knock jokes.  She tells the same joke over and over again and it hasn't varied in months:
O's: Knock, knock
Us: Who's there?
O's: Chicken noodle soup
Us: Chicken noodle soup who?
O's: You don't have to cry about it
Milo then spirals into a tirade, ridiculing her for her lack of knock knock prowess.  It's the same exchange over and over and over again.

Today we went swimming, to a park and then out for lunch.  After naps we went to a canyon north of Banff.  It was another long drive home, but this time we made a brief stop at the continental divide (a big wooden sign) and saw a giant Elk on the side of the road.  It was super cool and we pulled off to get a picture.  Shortly after that Odelia told us she had to go potty.  We asked if she could hold it and she said "no".  I then told her that she had to try to hold it.  She contorted her face and started jiggling.  Mark pulled off so she could go potty on the side of the road.  I told her that daddy was going to take her potty outside.  She yelled (very seriously), "I no go potty outside.  I go potty inside!".  She must have had to go pretty bad because she relented much quicker than she normally would.  They trotted down into a ditch-ish area and Milo and I rooted them on from the car.

Odelia was all business

Milo took this picture: Goofy face

He took this one, too.

The kids were getting to be a handful so I made them a schedule.  They somehow managed to get ice cream AND popcorn on the schedule.  It was a divide and conquer situation.  They are sneaky!

Popcorn

He was very impressed by his soda and stemmed glass.

He was very impressed by his tasty beer.

Random park in Banff

Hike to Marble Canyon

This portion of the park was hit by a forest fire in 2003 so the growth was pretty sparse.  Milo found some yellow flowers that he wanted everyone to know "aren't dandelions".

Verified: Not dandelions

This little fella has a distant cousin that lives in our garage back in Wausau.

Playing by the river (Sorry, mom)

We weren't really playing, I swear.  They were very safe.

The Matrix sat this adventure out, too.
